Missee Lee First edition 1941

Jonathan Cape, London - hardback

The original price was seven shillings and six pence (modern currency 35 pence), although my copy has eight and six pasted on the inner wrapper.

Dedicated to "Herbert J. Hanson, O.B.E., Scholar and Seaman". Hanson was Secretary of the Cruising Association and advised Ransome to recuperate in St. Mawes after a major operation.

An amusing incident occurred when a Brownie (Junior Girl Guide) patrol wrote to Ransome pointing out eight semaphore mistakes in the illustration "Captain Flint's S.O.S.". Ransome blamed Captain Flint! Subsequent editions were corrected.

Copies of this edition with wrapper can sell for up to £250.
